Most relationship problems are described as communication issues.

That’s partially true.

But not in the way people think.

The real issue isn’t talking

People talk.

A lot.

The issue is:

  • Misinterpretation
  • Assumptions
  • Emotional overload

Communication breaks when meaning gets distorted.

What usually happens

One person says something.

The other hears something else.

Then reacts to what they heard, not what was said.

That creates friction.

Why this happens

Three common causes:

1. Emotional state
You’re not hearing clearly when you’re already activated.

2. Assumptions
You fill gaps with past experiences.

3. Lack of clarity
Most people speak indirectly and expect to be understood.

The simplest fix

Clarity over complexity.

Instead of:

  • “You never help me”

Say:

  • “I need help with this specific thing”

Specific communication reduces conflict immediately.

What this means for you

Better communication is not about saying more.

It’s about saying what actually matters, clearly.
